No, that’s not a typo. It is time for Southern Africa Bible College to publicly ‘Launch’ its Spreading the Flame Campaign. The goal is to spread the flame of the Gospel across the southern part of Africa by equipping more students for ministry and Christian leadership. SABC has been doing just that for over 45 years, but in recent times the need for the gospel in Africa has become even greater.
Islam is moving further and further south on the continent and AIDS is still a growing plague among many people. Violence and poverty are part of people’s lives on a daily basis.
As Tinashe Baston, a SABC student from Zimbabwe says, “If we can give this world Jesus, it will be like milk and honey, an awesome place to live.”
Spreading the Flame seeks to secure funding for student scholarships, faculty support, distance learning, and academic excellence. To do this, the SABC board, Memorial Church of Christ Elders, and the Spreading the Flame committee, plan to raise $3 million in three years! Sounds like a lot of money, doesn’t it?
The great news is that friends of SABC have already contributed over $1.4 million in gifts and pledges! We’re almost half-way there and we’re ready to let everyone know about this incredible opportunity.
During the months of April and May, SABC will be hosting benefit dinners in various cities to publicly kick-off this effort. Al & Donna Horne will be in attendance, as will Fred Bergh, current Director of the College and former South African Ambassador to the UN under Nelson Mandela. We will be honoring several people who have played an important part in the College’s success over the years.
